Support Network - The Benevolent Fund of The Institution of Mechanical Engineers

Organisation

The day-to-day running of the Support Network is taken care of by a small team of full time staff, assisted by a nationwide network of volunteers, and governed by a board of trustees. You can find out more about each of these below.

Volunteers

Our volunteers play an important part in the Network's operation by paying regular visits to prospective, and existing, beneficiaries.

Visitor’s reports help us identify the best way to offer support, as well as ensuring that we are doing everything we can to help. Volunteer visitors provide the invaluable face-to-face contact between the beneficiaries, trustees and the Network's office staff.

We’re always keen to hear from those interested in volunteering, visit our Volunteering section to find out more.

Trustees

The Support Network is governed by a trustee board made up of three ex-officio trustees: the President and the Chief Executive of the IMechE, and the Hon Treasurer; and twelve elected trustees.

The elected trustees serve for three years, after which they may be re-elected for a one further period of three years before taking a break of at least one year.  All elected Trustees are also volunteer visitors.

Visit our Trustees page for a list of current trustees.

Staff

The Support Network's full time staff – Anni Broadhead, Chief Executive; Fiona Porter, Casework and Welfare Officer and Andrew Dodsworth, Finance and Administrative Officer – are based at the IMechE’s headquarters in Birdcage Walk, London.

They oversee the daily business of the Network, as well as providing a point of contact for existing and prospective beneficiaries and volunteers. The staff organise the bi-monthly grants committee meetings, handle all new applications and constantly review the ways in which the Network offers support.
